Beginner’s Guide to Dropshipping

By Kam

Are you just starting out as a drop-shipper, or is it something you’d like to do? From experience, I know that a beginner drop shipper has a million questions and never enough answers. I won’t be able to answer every question here, but this should be a good starting point for anyone who wants to hit the roads.

Disclaimer: I am a dropshipper myself. But what I have to share is what I’ve learned along the way. Also, these are helpful tips. not a guarantee for success.

Most Important Advice

Many people, when they start dropshipping, shoot for the stars. I was one of those. Let me tell you right now: hold yourself back, and start out slowly. Progress gradually. It takes some patience, learning, experience but this is the best advice I can give you, and I know that it’s important because of experience and also because it helps you live your dream life. I want to assure you that the sky is the limit for serious people.

The very first step should be to register for a seller account for any important shopping platform, rather than buying a domain and hosting and start your own stand-alone website. While stand-alone website is our ultimate goal, the experience with a shopping portal will be the very foundation on which you can build up your dropshipping empire. So, to start with, just go ahead and sign up for a seller account in your country. For example, you could sign up on Bonanza or Etsy or eBay if you are in the UK. Just go ahead and sign up for an account.

Once you have created a seller account, your next job will be to find a reliable supplier. The supplier should be selected very carefully as your business will grow only if they are serious business people. To get a trusted supplier, you can speak to someone in your own locality or you can search for one online. When you get a supplier, make sure that they are willing to give you guarantee for a refund/replacement if the item gets lost in transit or damaged. Ask them how soon they will dispatch the item once you place an order with them and how soon their Carrier will be able to deliver the order.

Your next step will be to list your first item. When you list your first item, ensure that you have written a correct item title using the most relevant words, item description with a good number of images from all angles added to the listing. Also, provide a clear description with your Return and Refund policy.

Now, when your item sells and you get paid, just place an order with the Supplier. That’s it!

Please note that there will be some different policy for each shopping website for sellers. You can check with their customer support how you can set up a Seller account. For example, if you plan to sell on eBay, you should have:

These will be very basics and you can take your first step right away. You can at least sign up for a seller account. Remember, if you want to start dropshipping, you should set up a Seller account right away rather than putting it off till tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes!
